National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA)

 

NASA will participate in the 38th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and requests that full-time undergraduate and graduate students attending U.S. universities respond to this "Call for Abstracts". This July 18-25 assembly is an excellent meeting point for all space science experts, providing students the opportunity to create many valuable contacts with professionals and like-minded students, both from the USA and the world. Throughout the Assembly, students will interact with science professionals, learn from their expertise and listen to their views on the future of space science. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit abstracts to NASA and to the Technical Committee of COSPAR. NASA reviewers will review submitted abstracts. Pending the availability of funding, those selected by NASA that are also selected for oral or poster presentation by the COSPAR Technical Committee will be considered for subsidy funding from NASA. NASA will participate in the 61st International Astronautical Congress (IAC), "Space for Human Benefit and Exploration" and requests that full-time graduate students attending U.S. universities respond to this "Call for Abstracts." All abstracts must be submitted electronically to HQ-NASA-Intern1@mail.nasa.gov via email by Feb. 25, 2010 , even though the deadline for IAC submission is March 5, 2010. Submit abstracts in MS Word or Adobe PDF format, as an attachment or as text pasted within the body of the e-mail.

 

The IAC 2010 Youth Grants Program is open to individuals between the ages of 21 and 33. Candidates may apply regardless of their home country or current residence. The young people selected will participate in the 61st International Astronautical Congress scheduled to take place in Prague, Czech Republic from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, 2010. NASA's Digital Learning Network presents a series of webcasts to assist educators in staying current on NASA education resources and related products. A NASA Research Announcement (NRA) solicits proposals for supporting basic and applied research and technology across a broad range of Earth and space science program elements relevant to one or more of the following NASA Research Programs: Earth Science, Heliophysics, Planetary Science, and Astrophysics. NASA is inviting student teams nationwide to design and build an experiment or technology demonstration to be sent to the near space environment of the stratosphere, an altitude of 100,000 feet. Space Florida

 

Space Florida, Lockheed Martin, and the Florida Space Grant Consortium will support a spring 2010 Space Florida Academy for undergraduate students. The 5-day Academy will include students from several Florida universities and colleges. Space Florida conducts these STEM education events with the Florida Space Grant Consortium and NASA-KSC. U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)

 

The Prostate Cancer Research Program within the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program invites applications for the Prostate Cancer Synergistic Idea Development Awards. The awards support new ideas that represent innovative approaches to prostate cancer research involving two or three independent, faculty-level (or equivalent) Principal Investigators. Six awards may be made from total funding of $7.2 million. Eligibility is limited to investigators at or above the Assistant Professor level or its equivalent.Pre-proposals are due Mar 3. DOE supports Modeling and Simulation for Nuclear Reactors. The purpose of the Energy Innovation Hubs will be to assemble the most talented scientists and technologists to focus intense research and development efforts on critical areas. The Idaho Operations Office has issued an RFP for an Energy Innovation Hub in Modeling and Simulation for Nuclear Reactors. A Hub should be designed to accelerate the current state-of-the art energy science and technology toward their fundamental limits and support high-risk, high-reward research projects that produce revolutionary changes in how we produce and use energy. Ideally, the Hub will have a central location housing many investigators, who likely will span multiple disciplines. The National Institute of Justice sponsors Research and Development on Instrumental Analysis for Forensic Science Applications. Three institutes collectively invite U01 applications for the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions. The network will conduct research, both independently and in collaboration with existing research networks and individual investigators, in HIV-infected and HIV-at-risk pre-adolescents, adolescents, and young adults up to age 25 years.
