National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA)

 

NASA's Earth Observatory Systems Program Office (EOS) has released a request for quotations (RFQ) for the design, development, and testing of propulsion subsystem pressure transducers for installation on a low earth orbit spacecraft called the Global Precipitation Mission Core Spacecraft. On or about Jul 31, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center intends to issue draft Requests for Proposal for 3 components of its Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Project. Summer is heating up with presentations by NASA Solar System Ambassadors at local venues -- libraries, schools, state parks, museums and more -- across the U.S. Themes planned for these public events include "Mars: Missions and Mysteries," "Galaxies, Nebulas, and Stars in the Universe," "Astronomy at the Beach 2009," "A Journey Through the Cosmos," and "Lunar Landing Anniversary/Star Navigation." Solar System Ambassadors is a public outreach program designed to work with motivated volunteers across the nation. NASA is preparing an addition to ROA-2009 solicitation to add detailed requirements to solicit proposals for the "Subsonic Fixed Wing N+2 Advanced Low NOx Combustor Technologies". U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)

 

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) intends to issue a solicitation for the Center for Aircraft Structural Life Extension (CAStLE) engineering tasks and research activities for aging structures. This acquisition will support the efforts of the United States Air Force (USAF) and the USAFA CAStLE. CAStLE (or "the Center") conducts research in the area of aging structures. The research performed by CAStLE covers a variety of tasks that follow aircraft and other structures through their life-cycle from cradle to grave. CAStLE research spans a wide range of structure-related topics, including basic development and characterization of materials, mechanical testing of structure(s), material corrosion susceptibility and mitigation, computer modeling and finite element analysis, flight data acquisition, structural teardown and analysis, and analysis of damaged, failed and/or aged structure(s). The DOD Spinal Cord Injury Research Program is seeking applicants for several award opportunities, each of which promotes innovative research into regenerating/repairing damaged spinal cords and improving rehabilitation for long-term care of wounded soldiers. Within each award, the program is seeking proposals that address neuro-protection and repair, rehabilitation and complications of chronic spinal cord injury and outcome measures including development and validation.

 

·         The Hypothesis Development Award supports the initial exploration of innovative, untested, high-risk, high-gain, and potentially groundbreaking concepts in the spinal cord injury research. Investigators at all academic levels may apply. Approximately 10 awards will be made from a pool of $1.6 million. Awards may range up to $100,000, covering a two-year period. The DOD Psychological Health/Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI) Research Program promotes research that will advance the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of military-relevant PH issues and TBI. Its awards cover the spectrum of basic, applied, clinical and translational research. All applications for related awards must relate to one of the programs current topic areas, which include: military-related psychological health issues, cellular regrowth and interconnection strategies and therapies in the central nervous system, evidence-based prevention and rehabilitation strategies, three-dimensional models of improvised explosive device blast waves to develop equipment to mitigate injuries and the use of advanced neuro-imaging, behavioral and/or genetic information to identify biomarkers and to develop diagnostics and treatments for different stages of injury and the integration of advanced computing and informatics into the field.

 

·         The Concept Award supports high-risk studies of innovative new concepts or untested theories relevant to the program's current topic areas. Investigators at all academic levels are eligible. Approximately 7 awards of up to $300,000 each will be made from a pool of $3 million. The performance period is 18 months. The Army Office of Materiel Command has issued a presolicitation to develop a fuel cell based auxiliary power unit (APU) that operates off 100% JP-8 Army logistic fuel. The APU will be used on multiple platforms, such as Abrams, Bradley, Medium Tactical Vehicle and/or future vehicles. The Navy's Air Systems Command Office has issued a presolicitation for proposals for the Selectable Output Weapons Future Naval Capability (SOW FNC) program. The SOW FNC is a 5-year program to demonstrate the technology readiness of a warhead whose explosive output or kill mechanism can be selected from the cockpit of the launch aircraft. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Secure Border Initiative Acquisition Office invites proposals for a high level model. USDA invites applications to establish a Healthy Urban Food Enterprise Development Center to increase access to affordable, healthy, and local foods to underserved communities. Several institutes collectively invite R01 and R21 research proposals for diet, epigenetic events, and cancer prevention studies. The goal is to determine how diet and dietary factors, including dietary supplements, impact DNA methylation, histone posttranslational modification, noncoding RNA, and other epigenetic processes involved in cancer prevention and development.
